The Club's Ancient Buildings Recording Group was formed in 1964 under the leadership of Jim Tonkin, under the auspices of the Extra-Mural Department of the University of Birmingham and the Workers' Education Association (WEA). Initially the group concentrated on recording buildings that were about to be demolished or were under threat. The houses were recorded on sheets and Jim built up an archive of slides..From 1964 until 2006 Jim's buildings reports appeared in the Transactions. The Buildings Group had some time before lost the support of the Extra-Mural Department. but met regularly in the winter to see Jim's slides and in the summer to visit houses where unsuspecting owners found their bedrooms under siege while Club members accesses roof beams.

Duncan James has taken over the job of Buildings Recorder and has formed a new Buildings Recording Group. More information will follow.
