The Woolhope Club has produced a number of publications. These are all in the Woolhope Library, and some are still in print and available FOR SALE

Annual Transactions

Lists of the contents of recent issues of the Transactions can be found below; we cannot guarantee that a given year will be available, however.

2013 Transactions

The Club's 2013 Transactions include papers on 16th-century Herefordshire clerics, iron-founding in Hereford, stables, the Rea aqueduct on the Leominster canal as well as a gazetteer of all Herefordshire mile markers, 58 of them being illustrated in colour. There are the usual Recorders' reports. Published September 2014. General Editor: Rosalind Lowe.

2012 Transactions

The Club's 2012 Transactions include papers on the Wye Navigation, the geology of Martley Rock, the heraldry of Pembridge church, the building of Eastnor castle and on Richard's Castle remains, as well as the usual Recorders' reports. Published October 2013. General Editor: Rosalind Lowe.

A bumper 260-page edition of the Club's Transactions with colour illustrations. Articles include biographies of Dr. Henry Graves Bull; Charles Anthony, founder of the Hereford Times; William Chick (architect) and other county surveyors. Published Dec. 2011. General Editor: Rosalind Lowe.

Herefordshire Maps 1577 to 1800 Supplement by Brian Smith

This book is uniform in size with the previous volume; it has 6 colour plates and 14 black & white illustrations in its 72 pages. It has details of 52 further manuscript maps, not including two further collections of 36 and 61 estate maps. In addition to the new material, there is a chapter on surveyors, an index of maps in the 2004 publication and a chapter of amendments to the 2004 text. Downton Gorge National Nature Reserve - a review with special reference to fungi, lower plants and birds


This 100-page review of the natural history of Downton Gorge was published in Dec. 2011. It has been written by three experts in the fields of fungi, lower plants and birds. Tom Wall managed Downton Gorge NNR from 1986 to 2010. For comparison, the authors have made use of earlier records of the Woolhope club and an archive of Dr Bull's sketches, notes and photographs at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. There are full lists of Downton Gorge fungi and lower plants.

 The book is paperback, with 8 pages of colour illustrations plus a map of the NNR. It costs £4.50 plus £1.50 p&p. Cheques made payable to 'Woolhope Naturalists Field Club' should be sent to the Treasurer:
